The 1885 Singers
The 1885 Singers was founded in 1997 and has grown in both size and reputation, covering a range of repertoire, as detailed on the archive page.
The choir gives four concerts a year, with usually a four or six week rehearsal period. It is a community choir in every respect, with an open invitation to anyone who
wants to join in.

2017 - the 20th year of the 1885 Singers.
This is a very special year for the 1885 Singers as we are celebrating our 20th year with a programme of fabulous concerts at various venues. Our exciting performance on the 26th March has two works. One of them is Gabriel Faure's much loved and moving Requiem. The other is the world premiere of a work especially commissioned by the 1885 Singers from Peter Foggitt. His 'Song of Songs' has a poetic text which is sensationally yet sensitively set. This special anniversary concert is at All Saints Putney Common at 7.30pm with tickets available at the door. Do come and celebrate with us!
On June 24th some of the 1885 Singers will join the Malvern Festival Chorus for a performance of Belshazzar's Feast by William Walton. If you fancy a trip to hear us in the Malvern
Hills on one of the longest days of mid-summer do book your tickets for the concert which will take place at the Malvern Theatres at 7.30 pm. More details available on the Malvern Festival Chorus website.
On 14th October the 1885 Singers return to St John's Smith Square in Westminster to perform The Dream of Gerontius by Edward Elgar. Alison Hunka (founder and conductor of the 1885 Singers) is delighted that Mark LeBroq will sing the role of Gerontius and Susan Bickley will sing the Angel in this quintessentially British choral masterpiece. Details of how to obtain tickets will be posted on this website later in the year.
Our year ends with a Festive Christmas concert on 16th December at St Mary's church Putney High Street when we will have a mixed programme of Christmas cheer with proceeds going to charity.
If any of these concerts have whetted your appetite and you fancy taking part yourself do come and 'have a go'! We are a very friendly bunch of locals and always welcome new members whether for just one concert or for the next 20 years! Details of how to join us are on the Get Involved section of our website:
